  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite a dramatic late 4-3 win against Manchester United last week, the Blues were held to a surprising 2-2 draw by the Premier League's bottom side, Sheffield United, on Sunday. Pochettino indicated after the match at Bramall Lane that his players are not "mature enough" yet and called for the issue to be addressed in the summer transfer window.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Blues have spent in excess of £1 billion on transfers since new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took charge in 2022, but the Stamford Bridge side look set to invest in more first-team players amid their disappointing 2023-24 campaign.

  • WHAT POCHETTINO SAID

"We need to accept, working and trying to fix this type of problem," Pochettino told reporters. "Always when the end of the season arrives, we need to analyse the squad and what we are missing to try to add people with the capacity to provide what we are seeing today, to improve in the next seasons.

"It's about identifying the profile. We are learning how the players need to learn our demands from the coaching staff. It's always a process to build and have the capacity to take a decision, but the right decision, and one you have to agree with the coaching staff, the sporting directors and the owners. Otherwise it is not easy to improve."

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

The London team sit ninth in the Premier League after 30 matches and come up against relegation-threatened Everton in their next game on April 15. Five days later, they face Manchester City in the FA Cup – their only hope of winning a trophy this season.
